A Vocational Education and Training (VET) skill set refers to a specific group of related skills and knowledge that are necessary for a particular job or occupation. These skills are typically focused on practical, hands-on abilities required to perform tasks within a certain field or industry.
A skill set in VET is often designed to:
- Address a specific industry need
- Equip learners with the competencies necessary for a job role
- Improve employability and workplace performance
For example, a skill set in hospitality may include skills such as customer service, food safety, and communication, while a skill set in construction may cover skills like carpentry, safety procedures, and operating tools.
Skill sets can vary in scope, and they may be part of a larger qualification (like a Certificate or Diploma) or offered as a standalone training option for individuals who want to gain specific competencies without completing a full qualification.
TAE Skill Sets:
- TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set
- TAESS00020 Workplace Trainer Skill Set
- TAESS00021 Facilitation Skill Set
- TAESS00023 Online Learning and Assessment Skill Set
- TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set
- TAESS00028 Work Skill Instructor Skill Set
- TAESS00029 Volunteer Trainer Delivery Skill Set

Total classroom/Zoom hours: 175 total hours
Estimated study hours: 15 hours per week
Mixed Mode – Please ensure you have a laptop with Microsoft Word, or equivalent, for campus-based classes. You will need to bring it with you for every class. For the last 6 sessions of the course you will be using Zoom so you will need sufficient internet connection and a computer with a camera and microphone.
Zoom – Please ensure you have a computer with Microsoft Word, or equivalent, sufficient internet connection, camera and microphone, before enrolling into this qualification.
For Zoom classes, it is extremely beneficial to have a second monitor (screen) connected to your computer. This will allow you to have your Zoom class open on one screen and your coursework documents open on another screen at the same time. Suggested options include borrowing a monitor from a friend/family member for the duration of the course, or purchasing one cheaply from Facebook Marketplace, Officeworks or a bulk discount store.
This course consists of 12 units, 6 core and 6 elective units. We have chosen a mix of workplace and industry electives and packaged them into our course. All students will undertake the following 12 units:

Delivery Mode & Attendance
Please choose your timetable with care.
It is important to check all timetables carefully to ensure you have chosen the delivery mode that suits you best.
Our Zoom classes are delivered fully online via Zoom in live, real-time classes.
Our “Mixed Mode” classes are primarily delivered face-to-face on our Clayton campus, but they also include six Zoom classes. These classes cover units on online learning and online assessment – so naturally we are delivering these in an online environment.
Students are required to attend a minimum of 85% of this course within the timetable chosen during the enrolment process. Some assessment activities are done in class and students missing these sessions may be required to attend catch-up classes to complete these activities. Students who are unable to attend all sessions of their chosen timetable may need to apply for a transfer to complete the remaining sessions with another group to be able to successfully complete their qualification. Transfer fees and conditions apply and transfers are subject to the availability of other suitable sessions. Most of our courses run fully-booked so transferring students may need to wait until a suitable vacancy arises.
Group-work is required for this qualification and students will be assessed on their level of participation.
The Assessment Cluster, in the TAE timetable requires 100% attendance.
Assessment methods and requirements
Assessment includes Designing and developing assessment tools, conducting validation and RPL as a team, addressing LLN concerns for students and implementing strategies, planning and presenting training sessions, as well as assessing the competence of students. Part of this qualification involves using your area of expertise as a base for parts of the assessment.
In our Mixed Mode classes, you will complete most of your practical assessments in class – such as delivering presentations to your classmates on campus.
In our Zoom classes, you will complete some of your practical assessments in class. But others will need to be completed outside of class in your own time. The government requirements for this course include that you deliver some presentations in a face-to-face environment. This means you will need to deliver some presentations in your workplace or to a group of family or friends. You will need to record these presentations to show your trainer. If this requirement will be difficult for you, it is recommended that you enrol for a Mixed Mode class instead.
Assessments are to be submitted online via your student portal within 4 weeks of the unit/cluster or as per the due date advised by your trainer.

This training is delivered with State and Commonwealth funding. However, the State government has recently released funding places for the year, and unfortunately, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) across Victoria have been impacted by dramatic cuts to subsidies and the number of funded places. As a result of these funding reductions, we now have a very limited number of funding places available for 2025 and the price has increased to reflect the reduced subsidy paid by the government to us per student.
Due to the reduced number of places, not all applicants will be successful in receiving funding in 2025.
We strongly encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible to increase your chances of securing one of these limited spots. Our team will carefully review all applications to ensure fair and equitable distribution of funding, in line with the established criteria. If you have any questions or require assistance with your application, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
To be eligible for funding for this course in 2025 you will need to:
- be an Australian citizen; a holder of a permanent visa; or a New Zealand citizen
- be physically present in Victoria or a NSW/SA border region*
- have not already commenced two Skills First subsidised qualifications in 2025
- not already be studying two other Skills First subsidised qualifications at the same time
- be aged 17 years or older.
Enrolment in a government funded place may impact on your ability to access future government funding.
*Certain postcodes only. Check with our team to see if your suburb is eligible.
Has the Governments decision to reduce the funding allocated to Private Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) affected your likelihood of enrolling into a course with MSATPD?
Help us in sharing the impact this decision has made on you.
Entry requirements
You will require sufficient English language skills (reading, writing and speaking), along with basic word processing skills and proficiency with internet and email use.
You will need to already have skills and vocational experience in the field in which you wish to teach. Eg. To teach ‘business’ courses you will need a Business qualification along with several years of relevant experience working in business. To teach ‘hairdressing’ you will need a qualification in hairdressing as well as several years of relevant experience working as a hairdresser. If you do not already have skills and experience in a vocational area then your enrolment in this course will not be accepted.
It is a requirement of our government regulator, ASQA, that we assess the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) of all students prior to enrolment. This includes assessing your digital literacy. You will also need to complete a Pre-Training Review. This is to ensure that this course is right for you and to identify any additional support you might need. The LLN and Pre-Training Review are short online modules you will complete in the student portal as part of the enrolment process. Your enrolment in the course will not be confirmed until these have been completed.
Credit Transfers (CT)
Credit Transfer is a process used to recognise qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other RTO or TAFE. If you have successfully completed any of the units in the course in which you are enrolling, or their equivalent, you may be eligible for credit transfer. Where credit transfer is granted you will be considered to have already successfully completed the unit(s), and will not have to participate in training or assessment activities for that unit(s). In determining where credit transfer may be granted, MSA Training and Professional Development must be confident of the currency of the applicant’s knowledge. In fields where practice/technology is changing rapidly, credit transfer may not be granted where knowledge of unit(s) has dated.
MSA Training and Professional Development will recognise AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any RTO.
To apply for a credit transfer, please complete the Application for credit transfer form and email it to msa-monashtraining@monash.edu
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL is an assessment process that gives an individual (you) an opportunity to gain formal recognition—i.e. a qualification or statement of attainment— for knowledge and skills you have attained through informal learning, work and life experiences. If you think you may be able to gain RPL for any of the units for this qualification, please speak to us to request an RPL Information Handout.
Note that completed RPL portfolios must be submitted for assessment at least 6 weeks prior to course commencement.

As a mature age student undertaking the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, I looked at a number of course providers to see which I thought would give me the best experience as I studied. From my first call to Monash Training and Professional Development to the completion of my course I was extremely impressed by the administrative staff and especially my trainer/assessor.
Our group had 3 face to face meetings before COVID-19 meant we had our remaining course by ZOOM. It was also a first for our trainer, Jeni Miles. As a group, with Jeni, we worked together to make sure the technology was an aid rather than a hindrance. This unexpected learning experience for all of us was a ground-breaking opportunity which we all appreciated.
The variety of backgrounds of my fellow students, the course content and our learning experiences made this an outstanding learning course which I am very pleased to recommend to people considering undertaking this program.
