Auslan For Educators

Auslan for Educators (Australian Sign Language) is the native language of many Deaf people and the primary language of many others who have learned it later in life. It is part of the culture of the Deaf community and is recognised as a community language. Auslan is a visual-gestural language which uses hand, arm and body movements to convey meaning and has its own grammatical system that is different to that of the English language.

This Auslan for Educators course is designed for Early Childhood Educators, teachers and staff to communicate with Deaf or hearing impaired children. It is a great skill to have and opens up a world of learning possibilities for the children in your care. You will be able to communicate and understand Deaf or hearing impaired children and/or parents and gain a greater understanding on what learning activities and games are suitable.

During this course, you will also learn how to use the Auslan language as keyword signs.

Students are provided with a free Auslan children’s book and flash cards.

As the trainer is a member of the Deaf community, the class will be taught in the real world of Deaf people.

Students need to attend 100% of the course to be eligible to receive a Certificate of Achievement on the final day.
